Sanma – autumn knife fish

image

Continuation of my dinner series …

I had grilled sanma for my dinner tonight. Sanma, which is called pacific saury, or mackerel pike, is a popular fish in Japan. Its peak season is autumn, and when you see them in shops, you feel autumn has come.

In chinese characters, sanma is written as 秋刀魚, which literary means “autumn-knife-fish”. Shaped like knife isn’t it? 🙂
